True cinnamon from Sri Lanka is the highest quality cinnamon in the world. It is characterized by a fantastic aroma and taste. Discover the difference between real cinnamon and the cheaper variety you usually find in the store - the "cassia" variety, which some spice sellers mistakenly pass off as real Ceylon cinnamon.
At the same time, you can recognize real cinnamon at first sight and, of course, also at the first taste. True cinnamon is light brown, reminiscent of a cigar at first glance, brittle to the touch, the taste is delicate with a hint of lemon and tropical fruits. "Cassia" cinnamon is dark brown, slightly rolled in one layer, hard to the touch, the taste is sharp to pungent. Cassia cinnamon also contains more harmful substances (coumarin).
Cinnamon finds its use in sweet cuisine, as well as in Asian cuisine when preparing meat dishes. A pinch of ground cinnamon must not be missing on the foam of a real Italian cappuccino.
